Company's Annual Dinner 2012

It was my company's annual dinner(celebrating 16th anniversary) on the 15th January 2012, Sunday. The event was held at RedBox @ The Gardens.

We were divided into 4 teams(we picked the team by drawing lots) and we have to dress up according to the theme. Glitz and Glamour, Sports, Sixties/Seventies, and Teddy Bear. I was lucky (*cough cough*) to pick Teddy Bear.

Each of the team have to play some games and activities to determine which group has the top score and win prizes.

Everyone have the chance to participate in the lucky draw session. It has several categories, those who work less than one year, those who work more than one year and so on. Of course I was in the work less than one year category. And I got RM150 and voucher!

Christmas 2011

It was Christmas Party time at my office last Tuesday on 20th December. We have this little session of exchanging gifts which we have randomly pick the name of our colleagues a few months ago. Sort of like Secret Santa. After that, we have buffet dinner in the office.

The Real Life

There’s no life after working. I never understand what it means until now. I feel stuck, suffocating, and depressed. I never really write about my working life, perhaps I can pour out my story now. Perhaps keeping it all inside my heart is the reason I am miserable at the first place.

Working hour starts at 9.30am. There are 3 art directors and one creative director(a.k.a the seniors). While there are 6 graphic designers – including me (also known as the juniors). Each morning, the seniors will hold a meeting discussing who is doing what job and which job needs to be output today. After that, the seniors will pass the job to us juniors. Well, whatever visual we do, we have to show the seniors first. If they don’t like it, we have to change it. We have to do until they are satisfied. Then only we can send the visual to another department – account servicing who will deal with the client.

I, like everyone else wish to have a fix working hours. But too bad, it depends on the job I have on my hand. If there is output that day, we have to stay until the clients approve and we have to finalize the artwork. My working hour is until 6.00pm. But I never go home at that actual time. The earliest would be 7.30pm while the latest will be around 12am. Every day, I work more than 10 hours. That’s not the only problem. We, the juniors have to ask permission from the seniors if we want to go home. Ask permission!!! If they want you to wait for the client’s approval, you have to wait. No questions. I feel like a kid, I don’t feel like an adult at all. Stressful.

Well, another thing is the Cantonese-speaking environment. It is so much different than my intern company. Back then English is the main language for daily conversation, while Cantonese is the second. But here, Cantonese is the main language. Only 0.01% only speaks Mandarin (like me). I never got the chance to use English because as one of the senior said before, a Chinese speaking English to another Chinese is “showing off.” I totally disagree. But what can I say?

I guess that’s why I am dreading to go to work every day. I feel like someone squeeze my heart really hard and I can’t really breathe. Along the way, I have lost my passion. My family said perhaps this isn’t my interest. You know like the quote “Find a job that you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” So basically I’m a graphic designer without a soul. *big sigh*

Confirmation

Okay, I'm back... for at least awhile. I'm too into work that I feel totally disconnected from the world. Anyway, for those who wonder, my company has confirmed me on 21st October. It is exactly 3 months and a week. So I feel quite glad that they confirmed me in 3 months time. I guess it mean I do something right. One of my colleagues who join the company one month earlier than me still haven't got the confirmation yet. I was so worried before that I might ended up like him but luckily not! Well, no more probation period for me and most importantly, salary has been increased! Okay, so not that much.

I never thought I would become a graphic designer. Well, I would like to be one during high school time and "designer" sounds cool. But working as a graphic designer is not easy. I never thought I will work in an advertising agency either, but here am I. For those who are wondering, I am working in an advertising agency for properties. I guess you will never know where life takes you.

But of course, there will always be a bad side and good side of every job or company. Perhaps it will be another story for another time. Till then, stay tuned!

A Day in Melaka

Mandy and Deniel's Wedding Dinner

Sorry I have been away for too long, peeps! Working life has definitely worn me down. Anyway, went to my college mate, Mandy's wedding dinner at Melaka on 8th October 2011.

Me, Peggy, and Veronika started off our journey to Melaka earlier than others. We reached there at 12.30pm - 1.00pm and checked into our apartment - Casa Lago Apartment because we planned to stay overnight there with our two more college mates and one kid for a day. In my opinion, it is not really that great, the interior is a bit old, you have to bring everything yourself like towel/soap and no kettle provided too. Oh, and would like to thank you Peggy's boyfriend for bringing us out to eat and treat us!

If people don't like you for being who you are, there is nothing much you can do, let the haters hate. I'm tougher than I look, alright.

Steamboat Dinner

Had a steamboat dinner with my colleagues(in my department) and my boss on last Wednesday at this restaurant at Sri Petaling(I don't remember the name, it is something like Ocean something). It was a treat from my boss. It was kind of funny, we are suppose to be there at 7pm something, but the designers have like endless work to do, no one is budging from their seats, so we ended up eating around 8.30pm something until 10pm. It is quite refreshing. Boss like every other boss likes to share their life story and anecdotes of life.

Working Life

It seems like such a long time since I last wrote in here. Ever since I started to work, I have been abandoned my blog(oopsie! do forgive me!). I have been working for a month now, still trying to get used with the new working environment, new colleagues and stuff. I am officially a graphic designer now, no longer a graphic designer student. Working life is definitely different than university life. Everyday is a routine. Wake up in the morning, take a shower, eat breakfast, work, eat lunch, work, off from work, back home, bath, online for a while and then sleep. Having Monday blues and excited over the coming weekends. I guess this is the working life everyone has to go through somehow.

I do feel like a freshie all the time. Looking back at my previous assignment/artwork for university, it does seems a bit amateur right now. It doesn't fit in to the working world at all. What is more important right now is to gain experience. It doesn't matter what college/university you come from, or how good you are, it is the experience that counts the most.

I promise I will write more :)

The Next Stage of Our Life

Everyone is so happy after graduation, but it is not the ending, it is just the beginning of our next stage of life.
After graduation, everyone is obsessed with finding the right job. Some of them are lucky to find one in a short period of time while some other like me, need a longer period of time.

After ending my part time job, Jobstreet and JobsDB have become my most visited site(other than Facebook and Twitter, of course). My job everyday is to send out resume and waiting for calls for interview. So, let's see. During this 2 months period(oh yeah, I'm unemployed for two freaking months already), I have sent out 16 applications, went to 8 interviews(Shocked, eh?) and only 4 companies offered me a job. So you can see the chance of me getting a job is 50 - 50. Interviews used to be nerve-wrecking for me, at first but after attending 8 interviews, I sort of don't give a crap to impress them and just be myself. Please don't listen to me, okay. But remember, you got to give a first good impression, you never know what the company is looking for.

First and foremost, remember to bring your PORTFOLIO(for my graphic designer friends) and I do think that is the most important thing for us, some company might require you to bring your relevant certificate(such as SPM, Diploma or Degree cert) and some company might require you to give them your recent passport sized picture. In my experience, it is better to have one pen in your bag(cos some staff will just give you one form and leave you there without any pen). Luckily I always have one in my bag.

I know most people would like to know what kind of questions do they ask during interviews. Well, I have to say, it's different questions for different companies. Some of the questions that have been thrown at me:

# Why, of all courses, you take graphic design?
# What do you know about our company?
# What is your strength in design?
# What do you expect to learn here?
# Are you willing to work overtime?
# Introduce yourself
# Explain about your artwork/portfolio
# Where is your internship company and what did you do as an intern?

Sometimes, I was stunned for a moment because I didn't prepare for some of the questions. But always think fast, cos I think I sort of said whatever it is that pop-up into my mind at that moment. So, it is better to say something rather than remain silent. Just, talk.

Being a fresh graduate is hard, they will said you don't have any experience. In another words, you don't deserve high salary. But of course there are some lucky ones.

What I have learned during all these interviews:
# For the reference part, remember to write your previous employer such as your boss or your supervisor during your internship period (I wrote down my friends contact for the first time, so this is a mistake).
# Remember to write your personal strength in your resume (e.g hardworking, punctual, etc) and also even if you only have basic in that software, you should list it down. (Like I didn't list down those multimedia software such as Flash, Dreamweaver cos I am not reallly good at it but one of my interviewers told me to just list it down)
# It doesn't matter how good your skills are, because skills can be learn, the most important thing is your attitude and your willingness to contribute.

For those who are looking for job, good luck for your job hunting and hope this will help in your interviews :)

The only thing that I don't like is how they use white color board to mount their artwork. Not to say it is not good, just that the wall is white, and as we know white optically increase space, so by just one look, it felt empty across the hallway. But I like how they put the artist's picture beside their artwork so people can easily know who is the talented artist.

Retainer Forever?

I went to the dentist on last, last Friday. Oh, before that for anyone who doesn't know, I wore braces for 3 years during my high school time(Ugh. Painful period). Well, I was thinking of taking out my retainer because my previous dentist (back in my hometown) told me before that I can take out my fixed retainer on my upper teeth after 5 years. So, it has already been 5 years and I am kinda excited to take it out. You know like saying goodbye to my teenage life.

But, the dentist told me, "Do you know what happened after you take it out? The teeth will still shift their position even after 5 years. I advised you to take it out only after you get married, or graduate or have kids, etc. You can take it out, but I do not know how wide the gap between your teeth would be." Since I already have a little gap between my two front teeth, I cannot imagine what would happen if I took it out. Of course, the dentist gave me two options: either I stick with my fixed and permanent retainer forever and have to get my teeth clean by professional twice in a year or I can take the retainer out but I have to wear those removable retainer every night for the rest of my life :S I used to wear that for both my upper and lower teeth but it gets too uncomfortable and painful that I stop using it. In the end, I stick with my built-in retainer for now. I still don't know about its future.

I'm officially 24th!
I love my birthday, can I have birthday everyday please? When else can you feel so special by getting all those attention you will never get on a normal day? Haha.
Wake up in the morning, and surprise to receive birthday wishes on my phone. Thank you so much for those who text-message me! And don't forget about the most popular way to wish happy birthday nowadays - Facebook. I probably get the most notifications in one day than a year and my wall are bombarded with all these wishes and love. Oh and by Twitter too.

Call me weird but I love to count the total wishes that I received from my family, relatives, friends and friends I don't really know well in Facebook.

A Good Experience

My early birthday present was probably getting the call from Cleo Malaysia to be one of the print model for a skincare advertorial. So, I went to the photo studio called One Digital Solution at Ara Damansara for the photoshoot at 2pm. There were other pretty girls for the shoot too. Couldn't help pondering about how my body is bigger size than them(since I'm not petite) and how my features are a bit flat. Okay, okay. Away please, ~~negative thoughts~~.

Changed into white tops, make up by professional artist, hair style by the hairstylist and then I went for the shooting time. Because it was for a skincare product, it was only a close up/half body shoot. I have one problem which is my eyes. The photographer asked me to control and soften my eyes because obviously my eyes is popping up too big for my face. I have learn how to control the muscle around my eyes. LOL. It was not easy, I tell you. I thought I did pretty badly, but the beauty editor said I got a few good shots. So I just hope for the best and can't wait for that issue.

It was a pretty good experience for me. Everyone, the beauty editor, the staff, the photographer, the make-up artist and the hairstylist are so nice. I'm so blessed. What's the better way to celebrate my birthday by having my fav mag beauty editor to wish me happy birthday in advance? LOL.

The Big Day

It was quite eventful on last Saturday. As we all know, our beloved ex-colleague, Stephanie Liam got married on 21st May 2011.

I was honor to be one of her "chi mui"(s) (a.k.a bridesmaids). This was my first time. What do people used to say? That you cannot be a "chi mui" more than three times or else you can't get married or something? Haha.

Well, on last Friday, I and some of the girls (Melinda, Zoe and WaiKuan) went to Carlton's Hotel, Shah Alam to stay overnight because we have to be at the bride's house on 6a.m. That night, we prepared stuff such as thinking and writing down questions to ask for tomorrow games for the "heng dai". We all slept at 1a.m. Well, the rest of the girls. I couldn't sleep at all! Ok, I know I'm not a bride(what the heck? hahaha) but I really want to sleep, I close my eyes with my sleeping eye covers, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't sleep. So I practically spent the whole night with my eye closed(not sleeping) until the next morning at 4a.m something. I did feel like a zombie that day. After the morning session ended, one of the heng dai(s) sent me back home and I slept for 2 hours before getting dolled up and get ready for the wedding dinner at Oriental Pavilion, Jaya33 at 6.30pm. It was fun to meet everyone once again such as my ex-collegues, my intern friends like Bluey and Simon, of course. But our tables was missing out a lot of my intern friends such as Lizzie, Sharmayne, Mei, and Lemon who are not in KL at the moment :( We both (me and Bluey) felt quite lonely without them around.

It was an awesome experience. I never been to a real wedding with all the tradition and everything except in TV! This is yet again my first time. The tea ceremony, the moment when the groom fetch his bride, the wedding games and etc. Everyone is happy and you can feel the love is in the air. Truly enjoy the moment as it show to me, true love does exist, that two people decided to spend the rest of their life together forever is truly touching. I have this urge to get marry too when I witness this happy occasion. LOL.

Steamboat Party

On 13th May 2011(Black Friday, no?), I went to Flaming Steamboat, Setapak for a party that was organized by the company we worked for the roadshow to celebrate the success for Libresse roadshow. Only ambassadors that worked for more than three days were invited to this steamboat party. But some of them missed this party because a couple of them are in their hometown or else some got other important plans. It was a great time catching up with others. Oh well, let the pictures do the talking, alright?

PIPIT Wonderful Market 6

Went to PIPIT Wonderful Market 6 at Annexe Gallery, Central Market on last Saturday with Cindy, Wen Ling and Julia. I have never been to one before so it is eye-opening. There are so many talented artist/designer showing off their artworks/handmade craft/limited items which you also can buy from there. It was so jam-packed with crowd. You literally have to push around to squeeze in with the crowd. No doubt, it is a popular festival. Too bad I didn't manage to buy anything. Some of the pictures I took below with my handphone camera.

I hope someday I will be as talented as them :D

After visiting the gallery, we went to eat the famous beef noodles nearby. It was indeed, good.

Julia's 22nd Birthday

Well, last Wednesday, my friend, Simon planned a surprise dinner to celebrate our roadshow friend, Julia's birthday on last Friday because her birthday falls on 8th May. He told us the dinner started at 6pm, so me and Wen Ling went to Mid Valley earlier to do some research (Wen Ling did that as she reached much more early than me -- 2pm, I reached there around 5pm) and searching for present. As the time was ticking away, it was already 6pm something, so we went to get Starbucks after Wen Ling received a call reminding her to get Starbucks coffee as today was the last day for the half price promotion. I got my Chocolate Creme Chip Frap half price for the first time! <3

Mr.Simon said he will be late with Julia. So, we waited until 7pm something, almost 8pm at some cafe with Cindy. When he arrived(not with Julia cos he told her he needs to use the bathroom), he brought us the birthday card that we are supposed to write. Then we decided where to eat -- Sushi Tei since Simon insisted it must be a Japanese restaurant because Julia loves Japanese food. Simon went back to Julia to bring her to Sushi Tei, we went to brought two slices of Secret Recipes cake. After that, we went to Sushi Tei and acted like we coincidentally bumped into them. It must be getting weirder and weirder because after that, Karena came, and not long after that, Alexa joined us. Anyhow, I didn't know whether this dinner is a success or not, but I do hope Julia is happy with everything.

Last Week

Last Monday, me and Cindy went to SSPN main office at KL Sentral to settle our account things. For those who don't know what is a SSPN, it stands for Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (also known as National Education Savings Scheme). Back then, we have to open one account at SSPN in order to borrow PTPTN loan. The first time I went, I couldn't close my account due to having joint name with my mum and her signature is needed. So I brought it back home for her to sign and went back to the office two days later. So, the second time, they said I need to bring my mum's IC and account book in order to close it(totally impossible right? unless I bring my mum herself). Or else the photostate IC and account book need to be certified (duh. so troublesome). So, I probably have to go to the office for the third time. =_=!!!

Anyway, went to Snowflakes at Sungai Wang last Monday with Cindy and Wen Ling. This was the first time I don't have to wait for table because it is a weekday and also afternoon time. I still don't get why it is so crowded every time.

On Wednesday, went to Times Square to watch Red Riding Hood with Simon, Cindy, Wen Ling and Julia. We bumped into Beng Chai and his friend, so we went to eat lunch and watch movie together. After watching movie, we bumped into Qreez. After bumping into Qreez, we bumped into Alexa. It was a pretty weird day because we were bumping into our friends that we worked together during roadshow. Weird.

Another weird things happened that day. When we were taking picture using Julia's Fujifulm Instax Mini 7S camera, a Malay guy suddenly walked up and stood beside me, shoulder to shoulder. I was stunned yet I smiled for the camera. After Julia snapped the picture, the guy just went off. Just like that. Weird! Luckily my friend is smart enough to crop him off the pic! You can see half of his head and body below. Total psycho!

That stupid fellow spoiled the whole pic! :(

What a day!

A Memory to Keep

It was a roadshow for almost a month. Even though it was only for 16 days, I definitely sacrifice my time, my sleep, my health, my opportunities for a couple of job interviews for this whole roadshow. But at the same time I gained new experience, meeting different kind of interesting people and most importantly meeting my new awesome friends. There were of course loads of drama that happened during this period. But it all ended well, I hope.

Well, I will definitely never forget this whole experience especially:
# Travelling all around Malaysia (Segamat, Melaka, Penang, Pahang, Terengganu, Kedah, Perak)
# Staying with a bunch of people in apartment/hotel/homestay
# Eating a lot of spicy food because the colleges/universities we went to are mostly local U.
# Sleeping late and waking up super early in the morning.
# Spending hours sitting in the bumpy van while listening to hours of Tamil songs during outstation.
# Playing cards until 2-3am in the morning.
# Sleeping and sharing a queen sized bed with two girls or sleeping on the floor with thin mattress. Sometimes without blanket too :'(

Freaky Encounter

This was what happened during our stay in Terengganu. We reached Terengganu around night time around 8pm-9pm from Pahang(If not mistaken because I sort of forget the small little details). We were assigned to stay in this homestay place that was owned by a Malay couple. I won't get into too much details.

Long story short, one of my teammates was possessed by a Malay spirit and we have to leave that place immediately in order for that spirit to leave her body. We were stranded and left to find hotel at 2.30am something. Needless to say, we only have 2-3 hours to sleep before working on the next morning. We were supposed to stay for another day and then head back to Kedah after that. But, because of what happened, we all went back to KL and only go to Kedah after that. Some girls quit the roadshow because of the incident. I think this is by far, the most "happening" roadshow ever. I think my teammates will never ever forget this experience, just like I do.

So after that, we went to Kedah and Perak for our two last outstation. Luckily, nothing happened. After that, we were safely back in KL. I never feel so much safer in my own house.

Just a precaution to anyone who is going outstation and living in hotel or homestay. This is what I have learned so far based on my experience.
1. When you first arrived at the place you will be staying, remember to knock on the door and says "Sorry to disturb, please allowed me to stay for one(or how many) night(s). Please forgive me if I have done something offensive"
2. When you are inside, remember to open the windows, flush the toilet, turn on the water tab, make the bed messy and don't put your shoes nicely - put it as messy as it can be
3. When you are staying there, please DON'T ever complain how dirty it is or how you are not satisfied with the room, etc.
4. Please DON'T take any pictures of the house or the room.
5. If you are staying at some state such as Terengganu or Kedah, remember to wash your sanitary pad if you are having period as this is their culture and you need to respect that.

I definitely think twice if I am being ask to go outstation. This is one unexpected experience that I never thought will happened to my life. The end.

Another freaky thing is my stupid handphone sort of went crazy after that. The incident happened on the 7th April and we arrived in KL on 8th April around 8 o'clock in the morning. So I called my mum when I arrived. And that's basically when my phone stop recording my call. You know there is this function where you can see your call record such as answered, dialled and missed call right? Yeah, so my last record of call until now was on 8th April. So, one more thing is that I remember my supervisor, Jeremy got called me on the 7th, after that incident to ask us whether we got extra mineral bottle in our room or not. Guess what? I couldn't find any record of it and I swear I didn't delete it. I even took out my sim card and put it back, but the call record is still stuck on the 8th and the date before. I don't know why. I just know I need to change to a new phone soon! =(

Detour to Cherating Beach, Pahang

After we finished our roadshow at Pahang on 5th April, we departed to Terengganu on the next day. But before that, we have the opportunity to drop by Cherating Beach, Pahang. It was indeed my first time being in Pahang and Cherating Beach. I miss being at the seaside, like how is it at my beloved hometown, Miri, Sarawak.

Roadshow Trip

I'm sure most of you will wonder what am I doing after my graduation. Have I found a permanent job? Nope. Have I send out any resume to apply for any job? Not yet. Before my graduation, I have already promise my ex-colleague to help out in their roadshow as a brand ambassador. I almost back out because I want to find a permanent job already but because of me, they are lacking one girl for the event. So, feeling bad enough, I promise to commit to the job until the end of April. I won't said what roadshow is that in case it is suppose to be company top secret or something like that.

It is tiring but at the same time we get to travel to many places such as Penang, Segamat, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan. First time I stepped my foot on Penang land. Loving the view when I woke up in the morning during my stay in Century Bay apartment.

University Life

How do I summarize 3 years into one post? It was May 20, 2008, that I went for the orientation day.

I remember I was the only one there, none of my friends were there. Since having a diploma in KTAR gave me the advantages to skip one sem to Year One Sem Two.

Everyone has already own their own groups or cliques. It is quite hard to fit in. So I stick with others who came from KTAR too.

I remember a couple of people said that I looked like a doll. Haha. (I had a pretty short black hair at that time) Is that a good thing or bad thing? Guess they never see a face like this before.

Anyway, during this 3 period time, I do make a lot of friends but at the same time I make a few enemies too. That's life, I guess. You will thought(like me) that at university, there will be much more matured and reliable people, but that's totally wrong. You cannot trust everyone and don't simply talk about your personal or secretive stuff cos they might use it against you. Anyway, enough about those unhappy stuff. Below is the pictures I have taken with my classmates/ course mates based on the year 2008 - 2011.

Year One: Awkwardness. I thought one of the coolest thing is to have Mr.Christopher Low to teach us digital photography. I hate my lecturer/tutor who teaches me Chinese because she looked down at me.

Year Two: At the beginning, everything was good and fun. A lot of outing, celebration and fun. Then, everything starting to go down hill. Friends misunderstood me, making enemies along the way. Starting to feel like an outcast.

Year Three: Everything is back to normal. Since it was the last year, I just let everything flows naturally. No point in forcing or caring too much. Stressful but luckily there were friends who helped me along the way :)

My Convocation

19th March 2011. It was everyone's big day- our degree convocation. It is my second convocation, the first one was during diploma. When else can you wear gown, hood and mortal board and looking like you're a student in Hogwarts without the wand? But seriously, it is so uncomfortable and hot wearing the convo attire with layers of clothes underneath. Apparently I'm the second in the family to wear this square academic cap. Hope everyone is proud of me =)

It was held in Wisma MCA, Ampang and I was in session two which started at 1.30pm. The ceremony ended around 4.30pm something and when everyone is leaving the hall, it was so packed! I also don't know where should I stand or wait. Plus, it was raining outside, so the corridor outside was jampacked.

Anyway, it feels great to meet up with my classmates and course mates. Below are all those pictures I have taken that day.

Graphic Design & Multimedia in UTAR

Just the other day, a girl who just completed her STPM added me on Facebook because she wants to know more about graphic design in UTAR. Apparently she found me through my blog. It kind of inspire me to do this post. What do you expect from taking degree in Graphic Design and Multimedia in UTAR? True story from an honest person, ehem, me.

When you decided to enroll in graphic design after completed your SPM or STPM, don’t worry if you are from science stream. It doesn’t really matter anyway. What is important is how passion you are and where you interest lies. If you love to draw, if you like art, if you like graphic, why not graphic design? If you think you don’t know how to draw, no worries, you will basically start everything from the sketch.

It seems cool to be double major right? Graphic Design and Multimedia. Where else can you take double major with such an affordable price? It will be around RM30,000 or less than that (not including printing artwork yourself which could be really expensive). But honestly, you will major more in graphic design than multimedia. During my 3 years in UTAR, I don’t think I really learn multimedia because until now, I am still not proficient and can say I will only be a beginner in multimedia software such as Adobe Flash, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe After Effects, 3DMax and Final Cut Pro. The software that I am most familiar with is Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

Okay, enough about that. Let’s move on to what you expect to learn in this 3 years period based on my experience. Actually, more to what I have learnt and what I have done in this 3 years. I know they have change and added new subjects now for this course. So it will probably different from what I said here.

Year 1

During this period, there will be more drawing than computer art. Such as drawing manually with your hand in Visual Communication(water colour, etc) and using Adobe software(Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign) in

Desktop Publishing I to create flyer, brochure and newsletter.

Year 2
There will be more individual assignment this year. There will also be exposure of new software to learn such as Adobe Flash, 3DMax and Final Cut Pro but mostly they will only teach you the basic. Because most of this new software is for group assignment, I didn't really learn much. Anyhow, will be using a lot of Illustrator, Photoshop and also Adobe Flash for individual assignment for Packaging Design, Desktop Publishing II, Digital Imaging and Animation.

Year 3
Well, of course Final Year Project will preoccupied most of your time. When you eat, you think of FYP, when you sleep, you dream of FYP. That's how bad it is. One of the group assignments are Interactive Multimedia II where me and my group members designed an interactive kiosk using Illustrator and Flash.

The long semester consists of 14 weeks while short semester consists of 7 weeks. Therefore, there is insufficient time for learning and completing assignment. That is why we are always being labeled as doing work at the last minute. It is sort of a trend, i guess. So, that's all for this super long post. Hope it helps to those who wonder :)

My second baby nephew has arrived safely to the world yesterday morning!

The new addition to our family!

Received a call at 5am in the morning from my bro-in-law. I was so blur because it was 5am that I forgot to congratulate him. My sister gave birth around 3am something. I am glad both the mother and son are safe. After a moment of blurriness, I passed the phone to my mum for her to congratulate them. Even though I can't see him in person, but I can't wait to see the baby photos and the growing up process.

They usually requested you to give them your personal details including bank account number in order to get the "MONEY". Right. I hope nobody falls for this scam thingy. I have blocked most of the email sender but there is still new one coming in everyday. I wonder when will this stop??? Hope Hotmail can improve their email security.

The V-Day

Today is Valentine's Day, where you can feel the love is in the air everywhere. Honestly, I still think it is a waste of money to buy expensive flowers (can we called them the victim of valentine's day?!) or chocolate on this particular day. Perhaps it is much more useful to invest in another type of gift that the price doesn't increase because of this festive.

Chocolate to melt your already melting heart

Anyway, why make a big fuss out of it? (Haha. I know what you are thinking. "You are single and miserable, that's why you said all this".) And no, I just have this thinking that everyday can be a Valentine's Day if you want to. Why just today, right? :)

I used to dread it when Valentine's Day falls on weekday during high school time. I don't know do every school do this kind of stuff or not, but in our school, there is some committees of some sort that have this program where you can order flowers from them and they will send the flower(s) directly to the girl that you like in the class. So, of course those girls with a lot of admirers will receive a lot or those girls who are in relationship while I can only watched them with little green monster on my shoulder because I will never receive one. Even though there is part of me that know I won't receive, there is another part of me wish there is some miracle somehow someone send it to me. LOL. I know. I was so lame for being miserable for this.

As the years go by, I have treat this particular day as just another common day. Of course, I am not anti-Valentine's Day or what. I do feel happy for my friends who enjoy their Valentine's Day. Chinese New Year 2011

Chinese New Year has been pretty bored for me as I spent the time celebrating it in KL with my dearest mum. Since I don't have any relatives here(*gasp*), I have been spending a lot time in the house.

I do feel sad that I cannot meet up with my high school mates and also attend the wedding dinner of one of my high school mate. But it is fun to browse through their photo album in FB to look how they celebrate Chinese New Year in Miri. I really cannot believe how we have all grown up and some of them are already married, planning to get married and some of them even have kids already. It seems just like yesterday that we are a bunch of high schooler, wearing pinafore, talking about crushes and homework. But I am really happy that some of them have found their soul mates!

Anyhow, as we grow older, the amount of red packet (ang pao) has obviously decreased :'(

If only I manage to take picture with everyone but it kind of hard when not all of them come everyday for the exhibition. Friends come and go, but the memories will never fade.

Heroes For Hire 2011

This is the first time UTAR Graphic Design and Multimedia batch held this exhibition outside of the campus. I'm lucky enough to be one of them. It was held in Annexe Gallery, Central Market, Kuala Lumpur. We have to go Central Market from Petaling Jaya everyday using public transport. (Okay, not really everyday because I didn't go on Saturday[only!]) It was actually tiring even though I'm just standing there and doing nothing. But I think it was because of the long period of time, went there in the morning and came back home at night. The crowd was more on weekdays than weekends. Can see a lot of my juniors.

Gratitude

I am really grateful to have friends that are willing to help me when I needed them.

After I moved out from my old hostel, I have no place to stay for the exhibition period.

Luckily, Fishball and Bear are willing to let me stay at their place temporarily.

And not to forget Jason, although he is kinda annoying sometimes(in a good way, haha), he makes me feel like I belong there. He even helped me to make up on the launching day of the exhibition. LOL.

And also a big thank you to Yoke Chin who let me crash at her place for one night.

During this moment, their care, concern has become part of why I feel comfortable staying there.

I don't like to burden other people, that's why I'm afraid if I bring trouble to them.

So, I would really like to express my gratitude towards each and everyone of them =)

Student Life is Over

Final result is OUT on last Monday! I'm so anxious, praying that I won't fail the organizational psychology exam. If I fail, it means I won't be graduating so soon. But thank GOD I passed! (Even though I didn't pass with flying colors, but still) Haha. Can't believe I get B- for an exam paper that I only know how to answer one question only. Unluckily, I got B+ for my FYP component III. I got A for my previous FYP I & II, so it is kind of sad to see my grade dropping. But I kind of expected that. =S Ah well, it shows that I'm not really that great in multimedia design stuff.

I'm happy that I finally completed my degree studies. Sadly, I did not get First Class Honours(It will only happen in my dream. LOL. If only I can get First Class Honours, then I don't have to pay off my PTPTN loan. *sigh*) Getting Second Class Honours is better than nothing right?

No more peer pressure. LOL. Friends who are working will always ask me "Eh, still study ar?" like I'm too old to study among them. =_=* I know working life will be scarier but this is one path everyone need to go through right? Anyway, I'm officially graduating. Guess all my hard work pay off in these 3 years of degree.

Organizational (Psycho)logy

Remember I wrote something about how the end of my university life has ended with a bad note? This is the whole story of what happened. It has been a real tough last semester for me. I was taking organizational psychology instead of public speaking(one of the elective subject), therefore I still have to sit for one final exam paper. I have study all the given notes and even memorize some facts. And guess what happened?

On the day of the exam, I flipped open the exam paper, and I'm shocked! Because whatever I have study before in lecture class has not appear in the paper. What is greeting me are unfamiliar and never seen before terms. I was blank out for 30 minutes, trying to remember all my notes but none of it apply to the questions.

So there are 5 multiple choice questions(you will have thought i will be able to answer this but NO! I can't even answer that. I just shoot whatever that seems right). There are 5 essay questions which i only know how to answer ONE question(not confidently, of course). And I left 2 questions blank. This is really upsetting. because i'm pretty sure I flunked the exam. I was feeling extremely miserable! What kind of lecturer is that? Teaching something that is not in the syllabus or teaching the syllabus but not the important part. This is the first time I encountered something like this.

I have no choice so i went to UTAR website and there is this one thing called student feedback form. I typed out whatever problem i'm facing and complain about that lecturer(some people may think I'm making big deal out of nothing, but I have to do what I believe in). This is my last sem already I am really afraid that I will fail that I can't graduate.

I sent a feedback to UTAR and this is what I got::
Head of Department acknowledged and took action on feedback. Action taken: I have meet and discuss it with Ms. Lee L.L on 22/12/2010. I ask her to give the feedback about the complaint.

Below is the feedback from Ms. Lee L.L:
1. I have mentioned many times and kept reminding all GD students that some of the terms of organizational psychology might be varied from one book to another due to authors? different demographics, countries or even backgrounds. As a result, I asked all GD students to read as many books as possible instead of one. I am ready for consultation to guide them more. Of course, so far no one came to me for something extra than my slides. (Haha. We are graphic design student. And you expected us to read as MANY BOOKS as possible?)

2. I have mentioned many times and kept reminding all GD students who always kept saying they were busy that as a university student, we must read several books or more for a subject learned. If we just read one book, we cannot explore and broaden our knowledge and perspectives to the topics discussed in the particular subject. I even suggested them to form study group to share their readings of different books in order to lighten the burden by reading it alone. (Again. Hello? We are not psychology student)

3. I have posted questions and even forum to the wble to encourage students to keep learning after teaching week on 1 Dec 2010 but there was no one participated or replied to this till today. (I'm sorry but your teaching sucks and your English sucks too. She uses a lot of direct translation from Mandarin to English. I wonder how can a person become a lecturer if his/her English really sucks)

4. Some of the terms were being mentioned and explained during lectures such as aptitude and criterion. Students were asked to take note on this. (Erm, hello? Isn't it the important terms are suppose to be in the notes? And not just from your mouth?)

And then they closed the case. Just like that. So, I guess they only heard one side of story only and you know what people with the higher status than us are always the RIGHT one. For my juniors who are planning to take this subject, think twice! I really regret taking this subject. Imagine the torturous thoughts I have to endure while waiting for the result to release. But luckily, I passed! Hah! Everyone thought they will fail but I guess the university won't let everyone fail. They probably moderate the marks in the end.

Moving Out!

I finally moved out from my old, crappy hostel that I've been staying for 3 years from PJ. Finally, I'm free from all the house leader responsibility(do you know how frustrating it it to remind everyone every month to pay their rental? feeling like a loan shark(ah long) every month), picking up others' messes(I'm usually the garbage thrower, cleaner, maid, etc). And don't forget the irresponsible landlord! I have been living at the her place for 3 years already but I have never see a sight of her, never know how she looks like. She doesn't really care about her house condition at all and only text me if we late bank in house rental for her. Bye bye, woman!

As you can see the picture below, I found this rat after one week I came back from my own home. The rat had dropped into a pail of water, drowned, don't know lying there for how many days already.(Eww. seriously gross!) And seriously, there are people who are still living there. Apparently, they are waiting for their boyfriends or some guys to help them to dispose it. And I have to dispose it cos I can't stand the smell and the thought that the rat is lying there. Sorry, I don't have boyfriend and I won't ask anyone to help me unless I really can't do it myself(I have this thing that I don't like to trouble people with my own problems).

Sorry for grossing you all out. lol

And do you know how hard is it to find people to rent your room? Especially when the house is really old and there is water-leaking problem in the kitchen and toilet. It is not that hard, really, but because they asked you many types of questions that you don't know how to answer because you're not the landlord, it is kind of frustrating. Like, if I got any problem, should I refer it to you? What should I do if I want to fix the toilet leaking problem? Can you reduce the rental money? Errrrrrr *fainted*

So, last Wednesday, I went back to PJ especially to wait for people who are looking for room. It is kind of convenient that everyone in the house is NOT around when people want to visit the room. Seems like I'm the only living soul in the house.

After I found someone to rent my room, I have to move everything out in less than 24 hours. It is amazing I have the strength to move all of the stuff(I know lah. I'm not petite. I should have the strength. But come on, nonetheless how not petite I am, I am a helpless and weak female too k). I have to help my temporary roommate to move out her things too(since she's sick). I thought at least I deserve a "thank you." But no, I don't get that.

When I found someone to rent my room, another house mate of mine asked me to help her find someone to replace her too. I cannot say, "No way. Go find one yourself right?" In the end, I found another person to replace her room too. So awesome that I can find people to rent two rooms in one day.

I guess I am sort of there, to help everyone. It is not that I don't like to help, but at least make me feel like I'm appreciated. It feel like people just take me for granted. I do wonder if they ever appreciate what I done. I also wish there are other people who will do that for me too. Okay, enough about the loooooong, sob story. Anyway, will be moving to a new place soon :)

New Year's Eve Party

Went to a BBQ party on new year's eve that was organized by my ex-colleagues at Sally's Bungalow, Serdang. The party actually started at 7pm but because of some unavoidable circumstances, I arrived late, at 9pm something(Sorry to those who are waiting me!) But it was still fun to catch up and meet up with everyone(well, not really everyone, some people are study overseas like Lizzie, some are in their hometown like Mei and Lemon). Spending the last day of 2010 and the first day of 2011 with my awesome friends was a total blast. Anyhow...let the picture do the talking :)

The Year 2010

Let's do what I always like to do before the year ends which is summarizing the year 2010 and highlight the best moment(that I remember) in that year. So, let's go!

1# My internship at MYC!

This is my first time working in a real working environment so it is a real eye-opener for me. Gaining new experience and learning new stuff(hey, i sort of know how to use a fax machine). And it is a plus to work with awesome people and awesome intern friends. It definitely make all the hard work worthwhile. Food, movie, events and outings are unavoidable =D

2# Meet up with my high school BFF!

To find a true friend is hard. But I'm lucky to have a friend who will always be there for me and understand me. Have a chance to meet up with Esther who came back from Perth to KL for holidays.(Of course, not forgetting meeting up with Hui Rin and Yu Liang[both my high school friends])

3# Having my work displayed at Graphic Design Showcase 2009 @ UTAR, PJ

Never have the chance to exhibit my artwork before(ok. so it is an exhibition for my university only. but still. haha). Not just one artwork, but three! I may not be a talented and brilliant artist but I am still learning.

4# Love for live comedy show

After being treated to the first live local comedy show by my boss during internship, i'll have to say i'm hooked! Went to a few show this year @ PJLA Theatre, Jaya One.

5# Got my driving licence!

What more can I say? Ecstatic much! Although getting one at 23 is a bit, ehem, well, old *cough*.

6# Clinique Star Tour

I never thought I got the chance to join this. Well, okay, I can join it because I'm one of the bloggers. Went there as a lone ranger, I knew it would be fun to have some friends to join something like this together. But unfortunately, I don't have close friends who are into this kind of thing.

7# Final Year Project

Whenever I heard this word, I got freaked out. It has been torturing my mind, my body and my soul. Eventhough I got an A for my component I and II, I'm not confident at all for component III after getting bad feedbacks from those brilliant panels. Bummer.

8# End of My University Life

It is suppose to end with a happy note. But it is not. Will let you guys know the whole story soon.

Happy Winter Solstice Festival!

This year, I am lucky enough to eat glutinous rice balls(or also known as "tang yuen" in Mandarin).

It is a Chinese dessert.

Used to have my late grandma cooked handmade glutinous rice balls for us.

With pink and white color glutinous rice ball.

Ever since I moved to KL, I have never eat rice balls at this particular day.

My mum doesn't really concern much about festive this kind of thing.

So, fortunately, this year my friends cooked for us to eat together.

Even though it is ready-made rice balls, but it still brings us the same feeling of joy.

Received a little surprise this morning when I received a mail from Japan.

Before anyone get confuse, let me explain what happened earlier.

So, during the month of June this year, I have joined 2010 International Essay contest for Young People organized by The Goi Peace Foundation UNESCO.

The theme for the essay is "My Role In Creating a Peaceful World"

I was just trying my luck and I don't expect to win.

I still didn't win in case you are wondering lol.

So, I was kind of surprise when I got mail from The Goi Peace Foundation this morning.

It traveled through air! This got me really excited. Sounds silly right? But this is my first time receiving a letter via air mail. ROFL

A Dream

Just the other day, I had a really bad dream.

I know this is weird but I dreamed that I was dead.

I was walking on the street but nobody can see me.

Except a few people which I don't know why.

I even asked those people that can see me, what if I'm dead?

I don't think I get any feedback.

And then I was trying to retrieve how I died in the dream.

But dreading it at the same time.

I was actually being shot.

I could feel the pain when the bullet went through my stomach.

I can feel the pain in my freaking dream!

What the hell...

I was really scared when nobody can see me.

Walking past me like I'm not there at all.

I think this is the first time that I dreamed of being murdered.

Maybe this is what my self-conscious is trying to tell me.

How I feel sometimes.

Being treated like somehow invisible.

Oh well.

It's just a dream.

End of My University Life

So, it's official.

This is the end of my university life.

Okay, not quite there yet since I still have to sit for one last paper on 20th Dec.

When I first enrolled at UTAR, I thought 3 years will be a very long period to go.

But, hey, here we are.

3 years just whoosh by.

I make a lot of friends, and at the same time make a lot of enemies.

I am really thankful and grateful to have friends who are willing to help me throughout these years.

My student life will end soon.

I can no longer called myself a student *eeeek!*:S

Of course I am quite terrified of what lying ahead of me and what the future holds for me.

I am just hoping to make the right decision and going to the right path.

Final Year Project Presentation

What a screw up!

On last Friday, it was my final year project presentation.

I thought they are going to invite people from outside to judge our work (like they said apparently)

I was feeling so darn nervous.

But guess what.

The people who is going to judge our work are actually the lecturer/tutor in UTAR. LOL.

There are two sessions(morning and afternoon).

The afternoon session consists of 3 people. (I will not be naming names here. If you wanna know, just pm me lol)

Woah, the criticism were really great.

I think they were really rude.

Mostly two of them anyway.

Some of my friends showed their TVC halfway and they just LAUGHED in their face before the TVC even ended. Uhm great?

They just laughed or just stay speechless after seeing your work.

If it is too basic, they will said you are playing safe and it does not look fantastic.

If it is too complicated, they will find something to make it not right to be there.

If it is too dull, they will said why not make it more colourful.

If it is too colourful, they will said it is all over the place and stuff.

They didn't even give positive comments, the only nicest thing I heard were "Quite nice."

The most harsh comments I heard were "That's terrible" and "It is even worse than an amateur's work."

Seriously, one of the worst day ever.

I mean, my supervisor approved my work and everything.

Now this two tutors who are not even supervisor for our batch critic us.

They don't even know our ideas, they don't even know our component I and II.

So in the end of the day, I was feeling so shitty.

Cause my website and TVC received negative comments(as can be seen below).

Yeah. Apparently "he" used this paper to leave us comments.

Apparently we are the first batch to have this kind of presentation.

This sucks.

Like my friend said, you cannot said that someone's work is terrible.

If you are the judges for American Idol, okay you can say that because singing is something that you are born with.

But design and shooting tvc and building website are skills that you learn in time.

They only teach us the basic of flash.

And they expect us to do like a professional.

TVC and website in 7 weeks time were crazy especially if you are not that familiar with Adobe Flash or Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premiere Pro.

So I did a background check on the panels.

A Night at Fullhouse

Sorry for the lack of updates, everyone.

Been really busy with my final year project.

So, one of my previous housemates, Lee Kuan came back from Singapore for a few days so we decided to have one small gathering at Fullhouse, Sunway Giza on 27.11.10.

Looking A Little Green

Looking a little green.

Yup.

This is my theme of the week.

SICK!

Last Friday, I was coming down flu, sore throat and headache.

That night was the worst night ever.

I woke up in the middle of the night, feeling like my head is going to explode any moment because of the awfully painful headache.

Gah I hate being sick ='(

My roomate was shocked(ooops! sorry!) by the amount of toilet paper I produced inside the rubbish bin because of my flu. LOL

So, it has already been 6 days and my voice is still weird and squeaky =_=

Just hope I can recover a.s.a.p because there is too much assignment and final year project that are waiting for me to concentrate on.

I want my voice back!

And my health back please.

Malacca Trip Part II

With our full tummy, we went to the Maritime Museum.

It was RM3 per adult for entry.

After that, we walked and walked and saw this beautiful building.

Around 3pm something, we went to eat again.

It is almost the end of the day.

Before we left, I took some photos with my friends.

Birdie oh birdie are flying home.

Before we went home, we had satay celup for dinner.

Overall, we spent around RM50++ for this trip(including car petrol, toll and food).

So it was all worth it.

Malacca Trip Part I

Went to Malacca on 29.10.10 for one day trip with some of my classmates --- Fishball, Bear, Thomas and Eric (too bad not all of my friends can join).

We departed at around 8 something to 9 something in the morning. (we are supposed to go around 6.30am but you know how it is)

We went there with Eric's car.

I was bored in the car when most of my friends were sleeping on the way there.

So I camwhored!

We reached Malacca around 11-12pm.

The first thing we did as soon as we reached there was eating chicken rice ball.

After lunch, we went to walk around Malacca, clutching our DSLR camera.(Looking so professional, no? LOL)

Being exhausted from walking around, we went to have dessert at this place called Nadeje.

Sorry but I can't remember the name of the mille crepe.

But it was quite yummy.

The First Week

Back to university life.

This is what it is about:

Classes with flexible time (Monday till Wednesday only [nice right?])
Daydreaming in the class when the lecturer is droning on
Facebooking everyday because that is where we get our information
Rushing for assignment and final year project
Meeting with our own supervisor each week for final year project progress
Occasionally watching movie at the cinema
Occasionally drinking session (or as we called it "yam cha")

Anyway, how did my first week went?

It was pretty normal, the lecturer and tutor for Organizational Psychology are okay.

Anyhow, classes are dull.

I can't really pay attention in class anymore. *yawn* (does this mean I'm getting older? lol)

The only thing I can't get used to is how by having this new system where you can choose any time and any class you want, I cannot be with my previous coursemate/classmate anymore.

And this happened to me on my last sem.

Grreaaattt.

We cannot stuck together like before.

Not that everyone stuck together, but it is quite joyous to see familiar faces everyday right?

I do miss my old classmates/cousemates.

But luckily I still have the chance to hang out with some of my friends.

I have no problem having classes with the juniors.

But the thing is because they don't know you, they don't even bother acknowledge your existence and pretend you are not in the same class with them.

They don't even want to make eye contact with you. (Uhm. Okayy. Rude much?)

But never mind.

It's not my loss anyway.

I used to think everyone should be friend(being so damn naive right?) but sadly that would only happened in my imagination land.
